While some horticultural media people are employed by large
media organisations and have ample opportunity to network with
colleagues, many work in isolation - that is, they are
self-employed often working from a home-based office - and have
little day-to-day contact with others in the same field. The HMA
of NSW Inc. provides the network to assist these people, as well
as allowing all members to benefit from professional development
and peer group contact.
The HMA concept originated in 1994 and associations have also
been formed in Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. Under
the auspices of the Victorian group, smaller sub-groups exist in
Tasmania and Western Australia.
All come under the umbrella of our national Horticultural
Media Association Australia Inc. of which body membership is
automatically included.
The HMA of NSW Inc. has an elected committee which meets
regularly, while members’ activities are usually held, on
average, bimonthly.
There is a cross section of meetings or activities held
during the year to allow a good mix of professional development,
general interest and social interaction, as well as to hear
presentations from various representatives of horticultural and
allied industries
